Koh Samui- Koh Phangan : Sister islands but not rivals ….
Koh Samui :
Koh Samui :
Two islands Same-Same but Different* :
In the early 70’s, backpackers from around the world discovered Koh Samui, a place they call “heaven on earth”. At the time there were still only huts, no electricity, no running water and a population that lived mainly from fishing and coconut plantations. In short, the perfect image of Eden for those Western travelers who love nature and freedom and are attracted to Thailand’s best attractions. At the end of the 80s, the construction of an airport in Koh Samui will condition the tourism development of the island. All the local infrastructure is actually changed: hotels, resorts, villas, shopping centers, shops, cinema. However, this concerns only a small part of the island, and nature is still ubiquitous as evidenced by the jungle in the center or the beaches of the South.
Like Koh Samui, Koh Phangan has many heavenly beaches of white sand, all along its coast, some of which are still accessible only by boat. But it differs from Koh Samui in its large mountainous jungle, much of which is also classified as “national park”. This protection allows him to preserve its natural and virgin character and, above all, to avoid a disfiguration of its magnificent landscapes by an excess of constructions. Koh Phangan does not have and will not have (buried project) an airport infrastructure and therefore depends mainly on Koh Samui for its service. As a result, Koh Phangan remains less busy than Koh Samui … except at the time of the full moon. They were only a handful of participants at the beginning, against several thousand today! For 30 years (1985), Koh Phangan has attracted revelers from all over the world, who come to participate in its famous festivals: the Full Moon, which takes place every month on Haad Rin beach, as well as the Half Moon “, the” Quarter Moon “, the” Black Moon “.
